hagebau Handelsgesellschaft für Baustoffe mbH & Co. KG is a group of companies to which approx. 248 shareholders from the building materials and timber trade with more than 900 locations are affiliated nationwide. Building material specialist shops make up the largest share, in addition to around 300 hailstores and around 100 wood shops. Five efficient central warehouses, each with 9000 articles, ensure that hagebau’s shareholders are always ready to deliver throughout Germany.
The task: Implementation of a Warehouse Management System
In view of the heterogeneous corporate and article structure, standardisation is one of the essential means of maintaining a competitive edge in hagebau’s corporate philosophy. This also applies to logistics. The five central warehouses are characterized by narrow aisle and wide aisle warehouses. Up to now, they have been managed using different IT systems.
The viaLog performance
In close cooperation with the hagebau project team viaLog created the requirement specifications for the Warehouse Management System within three months. After only six weeks a tender and bid evaluation of ten bidders followed. In a third step viaLog and hagebau inspected reference plants of the software suppliers. viaLog conducted price negotiations and supported hagebau in the final design of the contract with the selected software manufacturer. viaLog led the realization and implementation of the WMS and the new hardware landscape at all five locations through the phases of the requirement specification creation, in-house tests, commissioning, real operation up to acceptance.
A uniform IT standard for logistics was created with the loading and tendering as well as the award of a new avalanche beacon, which is functionally adapted to all five warehouses. Key advantages of the new system: cost reduction, transparency of logistics processes, simplicity of interfaces.
